Security & Surveillance

Nowadays security systems are common-place on more expensive Villas particularly if they are secluded or not within a gated compound. If possible we recommend wiring for these systems during the build. This means the majority (if not all) cabling can be hidden within roof spaces. Systems can be retro-fitted without a problem but then you must decide if you wish to have conduit running on the walls to conceal cables or whether you wish to go to the additional expense of chasing walls and / or cutting in to ceilings. Systems are available with a range of sensors and cameras. A security system has two components - an Alarm system and a Surveillance System and the two systems usually operate independently.
Alarm Systems
Alarm Systems come in two basic styles, wired and wireless. They use any one of a number of wired or wireless sensors around the property to detect intruders. The sensors available are numerous - examples include: Magnetic window contacts, PIR (Passive Infra Red) sensors that detect heat and movement, Laser / IR beam sensors and a variety of others. For retro fitting the Wireless systems are ideal as they generate minimum disturbance during the fit however they tend to suit smaller premises due to range restrictions on the sensors. For a larger premises it is best to wire the property ready for such a system. Most systems can then be set up in zones so that you can arm different sections of the house depending on who is staying.
Surveillance Systems
Surveillance Systems allow you to deter intruders as the cameras are usually visible and you can use the footage to identify any intruder. If you wish they can also be set up to allow you to view your property over the internet from anywhere in the world where you have an internet connection. Systems normally use 4, 8 or 16 cameras and a hard disk recorder. The cameras are usually color and often have an IR array which comes on at night allowing them to 'see in the dark'. Recording is achieved on a hard disk drive - the size of which is tailored to the number of cameras and the number of days storage required. Rather than record all the time most setups have a motion detection recording facility which triggers the system to record. This means that instead of recording hours of still footage the system detects any motion and only records at that time. This avoids filling up the hard disk quickly.
Either system (Alarm or Surveillance) can be used independently however for a comprehensive security solution we recommend using both. |
